Design of JSF Pump Transfer Valve Module

Hamilton Sundstrand

Summary of Statement of Work:
DBA designed Pump Transfer Valve Module for use on JSF 135 engine.

The module includes a manifold-type housing and a two-position valve. The valve manages flow of the after burner fuel pump and the main fuel pump under normal and failed pump conditions.

NP2000 Actuator Valve Module, Design & FEA Documentation

Hamilton Standard, United Technologies, Windsor, CT

Summary of Statement of Work:
Design By Analysis, Inc. (DBA) assisted in the development of a system schematic required to obtain a workable design of a new production propeller and control system for the E2/C2 aircraft application. DBA designed the new overspeed governor. DBA provided full design documentation, including finite element stress and structural calculations to ensure strength requirements based on specified proof, burst, low and high cycle fatigue are met.

Impeller Design, Analysis, Prototype and Manufacture

Pierburg Luftfahrtgeräte Union GmBH, Germany

Summary of Statement of Work:
Design By Analysis, Inc. (DBA) provided the required engineering and analysis for the design of an impeller among other parts. A solid model of the impeller was created in Pro/Engineer.

DBA performed finite element analysis to determine the stresses and deflection in the impeller.

The Pro/Engineer model was then used to create a wax model from a stereolithography file. Castings were then created from the wax model.

Lightweight Motor Design and Analysis

Reidville Hydraulics and Manufacturing

Summary of Statement of Work:
DBA was contracted to redesign an existing hydraulic motor. The new design reduced the weight of the motor by 20%. In addition, DBA generated a concept for a new spring that would change the position of the pistons during free wheeling.

FEA analysis was performed and documented in support of the new designs. The margin of safety was calculated for worst case loads.

Amphibious Boat Suspension Concept

Trolley Boats, Inc. Daytona Beach, FL

Summary of Statement of Work:
Design By Analysis, Inc. completed the conceptual design of a hydraulic motor driven, retractable suspension system for a next generation Trolley Boat to be driven on land as well as using a boat. This activity included defining the mechanical A-frame linkage, steering geometry, shock absorber system, and mechanical/hydraulic retraction system for the wheels to reduce drag during water operation. The activity also involved packaging the hydraulic motors, brakes and defining the attachment locations within the hull of the boat.

SH-2G Azimuth Redesign Project

Kaman Corporation, Bloomfield, CT

Summary of Statement of Work:
DBA was contracted to redesign the SH-2G Azimuth in order to improve its service life.

The tasks for this project included a feasibility study, detailed design and analysis and detail drawings for manufacture. DBA worked with a division of the Kaman Corporation, Kamatics, to specify state-of-the-art bearings to achieve longer life.

DBA’s redesign of the SH-2G Azimuth increased its service life between overhauls from 750 hours to 2000 hours.

Following the completion of the design, DBA was also contracted to design and fabricate an installation fixture used to assemble the azimuth. The redesigned tool cut by a third the time required to properly assemble the azimuth.
